Our Story

BAKER’S TREAT WAS FOUNDED IN 1999 by long time Hunterdon County residents, Nancy and Stanley Baron. Nancy Baron was inspired by the late Paul Newman’s charitable donation of profits from his food products, as well as the success of a group of Buddhist Monks in Brooklyn who had taken in the homeless and created a bakery and environment to work in. Stanley Baron, a Sherlock Holmes fan, came up with the name Baker’s Treat as a play on the words “Baker Street”.

THE FIRST LOCATION OF BAKER'S TREAT was in Flemington’s Turntable Junction-- a small café with 6 tables. In 2005 the need for a larger building expanded Baker’s Treat to an additional building off of Main Street behind Flemington Cut Glass. A second location opened in the town of Lambertville, NJ. The small town café and bakery soon expanded to double it’s size with great food on the shelves and local art on the walls. With increasing demand for employment of women in recovery each year, and a greater customer demand for Baker’s Treat catering and bakery cuisine, the inspiration for a larger location was intuitive. The Route 12 Building, formerly Hunterdon Sporting Goods, was renovated and completed in 2008 and currently employs some 50-plus women with additional employees for the Holiday season. With seating for 50+, the Flemington location became well known for it’s wholesome cuisine with it’s café, catering, decadent and wedding cakes and scrumptious desserts. The unique gourmet drive-through window proved to be a welcome addition to the community as well. This lead to the opening of another New Jersey location on Amwell Road in Hillsborough in December 2010. With the need for a town bakery, residents could now enjoy the convenience and cuisine of Baker’s Treat.
